Kickstarter Launch THIS FRIDAY!

Hello, dear friends:

I know it's been a long time for some of us; I hope all of you are happy and healthy and enjoying a good 2022!

After all these years of pandemic lockdowns, it's such a joy to make music with other people again! I just finished a wonderful run singing "Mabel" in The Pirates of Penzance with the Anchorage Opera; now it's time for something completely different, and something very close to my heart.

You may know about my recent work in cross-cultural collaboration around the world over the past few years. I have been very lucky to be able to travel and work with musicians all over Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.

This past year brought me to Uganda, where I spent over a month working on a program with musicians in Kampala. I wound up having my trip unexpectedly extended even further, due to some unforeseen circumstances. In this period, I started an independent, cross-cultural, cross-linguistic collaborative project with two incredible Ugandan musicians: singer, songwriter and guitarist Andereya Baguma and producer Joses Arins Emanzi.

This Kickstarter Campaign funds the project's completion this December in Uganda, to create a full EP album and show together.

Check out my teaser video here!

The Pre-Launch can be saved here!

ON FRIDAY:

Learn more about our story, our backgrounds, samples from the album, and what to expect from this exciting project, including:

  • a fully professional recording of our album, employing many local Ugandan musicians, producers, and artists.

  • An inaugural performance of "Conversations" live in a new show entitled “Embozzi Z’ekyooto” (Bonfire Conversations).

  • Our "stretch goal" Phase 2 plans, to raise funds to tour our album and show in the US as well.

I have never felt more passionate about a project, and the purpose behind it. We hope to have you on board, and look forward to sharing more with all of you! See you on Friday! Thank you for your support!

Happy 2022, Y'ALL!

Wow, what a wild ride these past few years have been, eh? I’m currently writing this from my new home in Austin, Texas. I am beyond excited to be here. This city has been a part-time home for me for over a decade. My family lives here; did you know my sister Molly is an incredible violinist - Assistant Concertmaster of the Austin Symphony? And my brother-in-law Steve is an inspiring artist, musician, and curator here in town, creating countless amazing artistic projects, installations, and events. My parents live nearby as well, and it’s the first time we have all been in one place in over 20 years, since my sister left Alaska. I’m also so excited to be close to my TWO nephews - my sister just had her second baby on New Year’s Eve, and I’m the happiest aunt in the world to get to be close to all of them.

Austin is also an inspiring and vibrant city full of music and artists and new, community-centered and innovative projects - to be honest, I’m intimidated by the cool-factor of most of the artists here, and I can’t wait to create and collaborate more in this city. My mother got me a pair of cowboy boots, so I’m basically ready for my country music career. Right? Right?!

So much has happened since my last blog post, so feel free to peruse my site for some updates…but if you want much more regular updates, I tend to keep my social media updated often: here is my Facebook and here is my Instagram :)

May 2022 bring new opportunities, new discoveries, new adventures, and new beginnings your way.

Here we gooooo!!!

Hello, ladies and gentlemen! Well, look at this, I have a website!!!! I’ve been needing to get this together for years, and as I am a bit of a grandma when it comes to the internet and “social networking,” I’ve been procrastinating. But I am so glad I finally got this finished! Yeehaw.

I will be updating this blog from time to time, and in the very near future for sure - please check back for updates. I am still processing my huge summer all over Africa, Europe, and the Middle East…I don’t even know where to begin. Soon, my friends! Soon.

Wishing you all a wonderful end to your summer - and for those of you in school, or working in schools, I wish you much success and happiness for the coming school year! Carpe Diem!

Love, Kate
